Timex watches originated as the Waterbury Watch Co. in 1880. Waterbury Watches was renamed Timex in the mid 1940’s and the first Timex watches made their debut in the 1950’s. This was the time when Timex premiered their now infamous commercials: “Takes a licking and keeps on ticking”. One out of every three watches bought at this time was a Timex watch. In 1959 Timex watches introduced the first women’s brand watch, the Timex “Cavatina”. The 1970’s brought mechanical movement to Timex watches and by the mid 70’s one out of every two watches bought in the U.S. was a Timex watch. 1986 saw the company introduce the Triathlon model and within one year Timex watches became America’s largest selling sports watch, which is a distinction Timex Watches continues to hold today. |
